In 1994, with the approval from Ministry
of Agriculture and Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Stud Book Committee (CSBC) was
founded.
In 2002, CSBC was the only legal
thoroughbred registration organization in China approved by International Stud
Book Committee (ISBC).
On September 19, 2014, CSBC made internal
adjustments in order to reform and strengthen the work of thoroughbred
registration.
On October 21, 2014, CSBC’s working
conference was held at Animal Husbandry Department of Ministry of Agriculture
and Mr. JIA Youling was selected as the director of CSBC.
From 20th to 22nd of
January, 2015, Dr. Kyo Shimizu, Secretary-General of Asian Stud Book Committee
(ASBC) came to Beijing to inspect the work of CSBC and provided guidance for
the solution of some issues in the registration.
The Volume IV of China Stud Book (2011-2014)
is completed and registered 51 broodmares, 7 stallions, 5 colts and 6 fillies.
It also corrected some errors in Volume III and made some additions.
From 2015 onwards, all China's
thoroughbreds will be implanted with microchips to their necks.
From 18th to 24th of
August, 2015, at the invitation of Japan Association for International Racing
and Stud Book (JAIRS), Mr. BAI Xu and Ms. ZHANG Jinfeng from CSBC paid a 7-day
visit to Japan to learn thoroughbred registration and do some research about
horseracing.
On September 7, 2015, CSBC held a
thoroughbred registration seminar in Beijing to popularise the knowledge of thoroughbred
registration.
In 2015, there are 378 thoroughbred registered and given passports. Among these thoroughbreds, there are 170 horses, 204 mares and 4 geldings. Among these registered thoroughbreds, there are 39 stallions and 69 broodmares.

From 2011 to 2015, the majority of
thoroughbreds in China were imported (1,537). The main departure country is
New Zealand, followed by Australia, USA, Japan and Ireland (see below). Only a limited number of the thoroughbreds imported from New Zealand have Export certificates. This is a
very big issue.
China has imported
1537 thoroughbreds from 2011 to the end of 2015.
